What do solar and insulation combined solutions look like and where does it fit in your house?
Solar panels are flat and come in dark blue or black. They’re made from materials like silicon, glass, and aluminium. Each panel is about one and a half metres long and one metre wide.
A south-facing roof is the best spot for solar panels, but they can also work on west or east-facing roofs. A three-bedroom, semi-detached home will need around ten panels on the roof. There will be some wires to connect them to your home’s electricity and battery.
Solar batteries are small and compact boxes. They are roughly the size of a standard fridge freezer.
