How much you save depends on the SMART devices you use. On average, a SMART home can save enough energy to power your home for 2 to 3 hours every week.

The cost to install a SMART home device can vary based on a few factors:

  • Which SMART devices you would like.

  • The size of your home.

Smart thermostats are one of the most affordable SMART home upgrades. They typically cost between £130 and £330 depending on the make and model you would like. SMART lighting can also be an affordable option, costing between £100 and £1,200.

A typical SMART home with lighting, heating, and security controls will cost £10,000 on average. You may be eligible for a government grant to help cover this cost.

(Based on August 2024 costs).

Energy efficiency:

Turning your house into a SMART home is a great way to use less energy and lower your carbon emissions.

For example, using smart lights can save 35 kg of CO2 every year. That’s the same as boiling the kettle 500 times!

How do SMART systems work?

SMART systems use interconnected devices and technology to automate and optimise various functions in a home or building. These systems can be controlled remotely through smartphones or tablets, allowing users to manage their energy use from anywhere. They rely on sensors, software, and the internet to monitor conditions and make real-time adjustments.

SMART systems use technology to monitor and control energy use in a home more efficiently. Devices like thermostats, lighting, and energy metres can adjust settings automatically based on your habits, weather conditions, or energy prices.

These systems help to reduce energy waste, lower bills, and improve comfort by controlling energy use as needed, reducing carbon emissions.
