Local Area Energy Plan
Find out about your postcode
A Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP) identifies the most cost-effective, integrated plan for the local area to contribute to timebound national and local Net Zero targets, whilst maximising co-benefits to society.
It takes a whole energy system approach, led by the local government, in collaboration with key stakeholders. Adopting a data-driven and evidence-based approach, it results in an indicative cost spatial plan that identifies the change needed to the local energy system and built environment, detailing what changes are required, where, when and by whom. The level of detail for an area is equivalent to an outline design or master plan. The outputs can then be used by stakeholders such as council planners, network operators, and community groups, to drive investment and implementation of Net Zero projects at scale.
The Local Area Energy Plan was prepared by Energy Systems Catapult (ESC) on behalf of the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority York & North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (Y&NY LEP) and City of York Council. As part of the output, a visualisation map was created to show what different areas of York have in place and are performing against the Net Zero Carbon Emissions target. The visual representation of results is just one element of a LAEP's process and you should interpret this in tandem with the LAEP report. Map Instructions
This Local Area Energy Plan map has been developed by YorEnergy partner, Energy Systems Catapult and is designed to allow you to understand the profile of different areas in York in terms of their EPC ratings. The following provides instructions on how to use the interactive map below:
-
The web map loads at a zoom level, which allows the whole city of York to be visible.
-
The map comprises 11 layers of information and the default one shows information on the average EPC rating and other building characteristics at the postcode level.
-
The interface has three icons, which allows the user to interact with the map. The magnifying glass icon allows the user to enter their postcode (e.g. YO1 9RZ), address, or even current location, if within York. Doing so and hitting “Enter” zooms in the selected postcode and a table with building characteristics pops up.
-
The middle icon allows the user to toggle on and off the activated layer’s legend.
-
Finally, the rightmost icon brings up the group of layers named “Local Area Energy Plan”. This is a dropdown menu which lists 11 layers and the user can select which one they wish to be active.
-
When a postcode polygon is clicked, a table pop-up appears with information about the layer. If the layer is changed, simply click on a new area to bring up information related to that layer.
Then from here you can choose which information you would like to see from the EPC data to the different measures installed in your postcode. You can filter which information you would like to see to find out how your postcode is performing.
